Science Discovery 4/13/15

This science discovery is about giraffes. A giraffe weighs about 1400 kilograms and it's neck is 1.5 – 1.8 meters. A giraffe inhabits African savannas, grasslands, and open woodlands. The hair that is on a giraffe, mostly its neck, is about 10 times thicker than the average human hair. The spots that are on the giraffe act as a camouflage against predators. When it stands next to the tree, it blends into the sun and shadows. Giraffes are ruminants, this means they have more than one stomach. they actually have 4 stomachs.

My science discovery this time is about cats. Cats are one of the most common house pets in the world, their are more than 500 million of them. Cats and us have been associated for nearly 10,000 years. Cats can conserve energy by sleeping 13 to 14 hours a day. A group of cats is called a clowder, a male cat is called a tom, a female cat is called a molly, and young cats are called kittens. A cat can live to be 12 to 15 years old and one human year is equal to seven cat year. So 15 years as a cat would actually be 105 human years.
