This week when I was putting up my Christmas tree I wondered many things about it. And I decided I wanted to learn more about the history of Christmas trees and some facts on evergreens. It takes about 6 to 10 years of fighting heavy rain, sleet, and hail for a tree to mature. Many years ago, people would just cut down there tree the woods! But now, most people go to actuall farms. 98% of Christmas trees are grown on farms. Usally, about 2,000 trees are planted per acre. But only 1,000-1,500 of them survive. On the other hand, some people get artificial trees. Artificial trees were devoloed in Germany in the 19th century.

This week for my Science discovery, I'm researching snow. Every single little snowflake that falls from the sky is different! No snowflake is ever the exact same. The highest snowfall ever recorded in a year was 31.1 meters, in Mount Rainier, Washington State. On, Febuary 19th 1971. Some people look at snow as a great thing and they are very excited when it comes, most of those people are skiers and snowboarders. But on the other hand, there are people in the world that have what is called, Chinophobia. Which means you are deathy afraid of snow. 80% of all freshwater on Earth is frozen as ice or snow. This accounts as 12% of the Earth's surface. Snow is actually clear and colorless, not white. It just looks white because of the way the light reflects off the ice crystals. 10 inches of snow really only melts down to 1 inch of water!
