This discovery is about the difference between deciduous trees and coniferous trees. First of all deciduous trees lose their leaves and most species of conifers do not. The main reason for this is because deciduous trees lose more water through their leaves than conifers do from their needles. Another difference between them is conifers usually grow in an area with poor soil and deciduous trees usually live in a place with rich, healthy soil. Two types of conifers that lose their needles in the fall are Tamaracks and Larches. Conifers are cone-bearing trees instead of seed-bearing like deciduous trees.

Atoms join together to form molecules because of their electron pairs, or orbitals. There are 4 levels of orbitals (s,p,d,and f). The "valance shell electrons" or "shell" are responsible because they are most likely not completely filled. The atom will fill these empty spaces by sharing, or possibly transferring electrons with another atom.
