Ghana and its Unsafe Water

Water, Land Area, and Climate

There is 238,533 sq. km. total (227,533 sq. km is actual land) and (11,000 is actual water. There is 80% of people in Ghana with access to clean water but only 13% of people have improved sanitation. There is 20% of arable land
(45,500 sq. km.).There are 309 sq. km. of irrigated land in Ghana with a dry and dusty climate with many droughts. It is also very tropical and warm.

Population and How Water Effects It

The total population is 25,199,609 people living there. The percentage of people living in poverty is approximately 29%. Which that is an example of economic water scarcity. That means they dont have the money to create the infrastructure that brings the water to the people in need. Ghana gets most of its drinking water from the Gulf of Guinea. Since they do not get a lot of water they get diseases like diarrhea. Some water contact diseases are schistosomiasis.

The Land Area of the Water Factors

The total renewable water resources are 53.2 cubic km. per yr. in Ghana also. The total freshwater withdrawal is 0.98 cubic km. per year. 24% is domestic, 10% is industrial, and 66% of the water Ghana uses is agricultural.

The Water Crisis and What is Being Done

The causes of the water crisis in Ghana is there is many droughts, inadequate water supplies, and water pollution. Ghana has physical water scarcity because it is when there is not enough water for needs and Ghana's population is growing faster than its water supply. The things being done to stop this problem is encouraging the people to use latrines and teaching them how to save water and bring sanitation water to 2,902 people.
