My first January scientific discovery is about Siberian Huskies. The Siberian Husky is a medium size working dog that originated in North Eastern Siberia. These intelligent dogs are used for outdoor sports such as the Iditarod. They are also common house pets. These dogs can handle very low temperatures because of their thick coats of fur. Their lifespan is about 12-15 years. The Siberian Husky is known for its amazing endurance and willingness to work. These dogs love to run, its in their blood. These dogs look very much like wolves and they look beautiful.
My second January discovery is about butterflies. Butterflies are insects that often have brightly colored wings with unique patterns made up of tiny scales. Most Butterflies feed on nectar from flowers. Scientists estimate that their are about 15,000 to 20,000 different species. Monarch Butterflies are known for their long migration. Every year Monarch Butterflies will travel a great distance. Females will lay eggs and a new generation of Monarchs will travel back, completing the cycle. An adult butterfly will eventually emerge from the chrysalis where it will wait a few hours for its wings to fill with blood and dry, before flying for the first time.
