Kalyn Naylor 2-23-15 Emperor Penguins

Emperor Penguins are the biggest type of penguins. They have a pale yellow connection between the orange-yellow ear patches and a pale yellow upper breast. Younger immature penguins look like adults but are smaller and have a white chin while adults have a black chin. The ear patches on a immature penguin are whitish and turn yellow with age. Penguins balance the egg/chicks on their feet to prevent contact with ice. Some of the main things they eat are fish and krill.

Kalyn Naylor 2-23-25 Krill

Krill are only about two inches in length, but are a big part in the food chain. They feed on phytoplankton. Phytoplankton are microscopic, single-celled plants that drift near the ocean’s surface and live off carbon dioxide and the sun’s rays. Without Krill most life forms in the Arctic would die off. Did you know scientists estimate that the total weight of all the Antarctic krill is more than the weight of all of the humans on Earth. There are 85 known krill species. Their total weight ranges from 125 million tons to 6 billion tons, and thats all in the waters of Antarctica. During some times of year, krill join in swarms so large that they can be seen from space!
