November 15, 2014 Science Discovery The giant panda has a black-and-white coat. Adults measure around 4 to 6 ft long, including a tail of about 13 cm, and 60 to 90 cm tall at the shoulder. Males can weigh up to 350 lbs. Females can weigh as little as 165 lbs, but can also weigh up to 276 lbs. Average adult weight is 220 to 254 lbs A panda has a body shape similar of bears. It has black fur on its ears, eye patches, legs, arms and shoulders. The rest of the animal's coat is white. However scientists don't know why these unusual bears are black and white, people suggests that the bold coloring provides effective camouflage in their shade in snowy and rocky habitat. A panda's thick, wooly coat keeps it warm in the cool forests of its habitat. image from: content.time.com

Beavers are known for building dams, canals, and lodges (homes). They are the second-largest rodent in the world Their colonies create one or more dams to provide still, deep water to protect against predators, and to float food and building material. They are known for their alarm signal: when startled or frightened, a swimming beaver will rapidly dive while forcefully slapping the water with its broad tail, audible over great distances above and below water. This serves as a warning to beavers in the area. Once a beaver has sounded the alarm, nearby beavers will dive and may not reemerge for some time. Beavers are slow on land, but are good swimmers, and can stay under water for as long as 15 minutes. As for many animals beavers do not hibernate .

For my science Discovery this week i decided to choose something that is common in PA, i researched Stink Bugs. The adults are approximately 1.7 centimeters long and about as wide, forming the shield shape characteristics of other stink bugs. They are various shades of brown on both the top and undersides, with gray, off-white, black, copper, and bluish markings. Markings unique to this species include alternating light bands on the antennae and alternating dark bands on the thin outer edge of the abdomen. The legs are brown with faint white mottling or banding. The stink glands are located on the underside of the thorax, between the first and second pair of legs, and on the dorsal surface of the abdomen.
