Calculating Density using a balance and the water displacement method.

You want to find the density of your 'pet rock'. Then you ask yourself how am I to do this? This science discovery will guide you through the steps of finding the density of an object or well, your pet rock.

Step 1:

first setup your lab. You will need the following:

  • a triple beam balance
  • a 50mL graduated cylinder
  • beaker of water (50ml)
  • a pi-pet
  • your rock

Step 2:

Now you will find the mass of your rock. Make sure your balance is set on 0 and place your rock on the left side.(<--)
Your balance will tilt over one way or another, this tells you its time to measure. First move the hundreths beam if that is to heavy go to the tenths and if its still to heavy use the ones until the pointer shows zero once again. Record your data.

Step 3:

Next you will find the volume of your rock. Take your cylinder and your water and pour 30mL of water in your cylinder. Use your pi-pet to be precise that it is 30mL. Place your rock in the water carefully carefully to avoid a splash. ( tip the cylinder slightly a slide the rock down the side). you will now have more than 30mL of water in your cylinder. your amount of water you have now in the cylinder will be subtracted by 30mL the number you get will be the volume of your rock. (ex: 37mL - 30mL = 7mL <--- VOLUME=7mL) Record your data.

Step 4:

Last you will find the density of your rock. DENSITY= M/V. you will divide your mass by your volume to get the density of your pet rock. (ex: 14g / 7mL = 2g/mL <-----DENSITY = 2g/mL) Record your data.

_WHAT IS HAIR?

Is it the one thing most girls love the most?
Is it notty stupid stuff that lies above your head?
Is it the stuff that changes colors when you age or color it or is it something?

These are all random theories of what hair is but really, what is hair? these small facts and sites will let you know.

Hair is made of tough protein called keratin.
Can you believe it is also made of dead skin cells?
Hair is made up of many layers.

If you checked out these websites you can see there are so many facts and explanations i can tell you but i feel i couldnt rewrite them without them being mainly incorrect and by giving these sites credit helps them too so what is hair that is hair...(will finish afternoon of 11-17-14 or next night.)

Q: does the Earth rotate around the sun or does the sun rotate around the Earth?
A: for the longest time and still people make their own theories of this particular question. the answer to this question is just a big battleground of theories between all people. But really, what is the answer?
It is proven that the Earth rotates around the sun as all planets do. After years and years of research scientists finally came up with an explanation. The Earth travels 365 days (one year) to orbit all the way around the sun. The sun while rotating around the sun rotates itself too, or as you may call it, spins. One of the spins takes approximately 24 hours (one day). This being said, is how we get day and night. When your part of the Earth is facing the sun it will be day time, or when it faces the moon, of course, it will be night. Does the Earth rotate around the sun or does the sun rotate around the Earth? (underlined)
