10/27/14 Science Discovery

This weekend I was trying to think of something good I could learn about. I then realized its Halloween so why not lean about pumpkins? I asked myself the question "Why are pumpkins orange?" Well, after researching the topic I found out that pumpkins are orange because of the orange pigment that is abundant within them.

This weekend I made a scientific discovery. How I made this was when I was riding home from a good time in Pittsburgh for the weekend I started looking at the road. We use the roads just about everyday. Most of them are made from asphalt. This made me wonder what asphalt is made from. When researching the topic I found that asphalt is a type of paving concrete. It could also include different side substances. These include sand, gravel, etc. In conclusion this is my science discovery for this weekend.

This nice, long weekend the weather was kind of cold some days, others not so much. The cold weather reminded me about snow. All the sudden I was asking myself the question "How is snow formed?" After doing some research about the topic if found out that snow is formed in the clouds. It does this when tiny ice crystals begin to clump together, eventually turning into a snowflake. When the snowflake gets heavy enough it falls out of the cloud and makes its way to the ground to become what we know as snow.

This weekend I was asked to make a scientific discovery. At the time I was thinking about it the sun was shining outside. It reminded me about the sunflowers my sisters' grew out side by my barn. All the sudden I wondered why sunflowers were called sunflowers. After a bit of research about the topic I came to the conclusion that sunflowers were named sunflowers because they look like the sun. Is that it? No, it is not. Sunflowers were also named sunflowers because during the day they follow the sun's path. So they basically watch the sun all day.
In conclusion this is my science discovery for this weekend.
