For this weeks scientific discovery I learned more about the sun. The sun is a star found at the center of the solar system. Most of us already know that the sun is what gives us light and keeps us warm but there are some things I found out that are really cool. First of all the sun is 4.6 billion years old. I also learned that one million earths could fit inside the sun. I found out it takes 8 minutes for the light from the sun to reach earth. That is fast because the sun and the earth are very far apart. If it wasn't for the sun we wouldn't be alive right now because it needs to keep us warm. The sun is very important.

For my science discovery I am going to talk about clouds. We all know that clouds are the white puffy things in the sky. However there is much more to learn. Every single planet with an atmosphere has clouds. The moon even has clouds. Clouds are white because they reflect the suns light which makes them appear to be white. There are many different types of clouds including cumulus, cirrus, and stratus. Clouds also drop rain so they're important because without them how would we be able to get rain? Without rain there would be no water which means we could all die from lack of water. That is why clouds are a very important part of life.

I chose to do this weeks science disovery on turtles. Turtles are reptiles. They have hard shells that can protect them from attacks. If turtles are being attacked some types of turtles are able to hide their head inside their shell. They're cold blooded, and have lived for over 215 million years! The sad thing is turtles are becoming endangered so one day we might nit have any. A fun fact is the biggest turtle ever is the leatherback sea turtle. It weighs up to 2000 pounds! The final thing I found out is that turtles can lay eggs.

I chose to do my science discovery on zebras. Zebras are the animals that have black and white stripes. I chose to do my science discovery on zebras because I don't know too much about them and they seem interesting. When I found out more about them I was very surprised. I learned that every zebra that ever exists has a different pattern of black and white stripes on it's back. A crazy thing I found out is that zebras stand while sleeping! That must be hard to do. There are tons of theories saying that zebras stripes have something to do with camouflage. I did even more research about the camouflage on zebras and learned some pretty interesting things! To humans zebras seem to stick out but to the zebras main predator the lion is colorblind so if the zebra is in tall grass the lion may not see the zebra. For zebras, the pattern of the stripes is far more important then the color. In conclusion zebras are a very unique animal and that is why I chose it in my science discovery.
