Science Discovery: Saw Fish

This weeks science discovery is abuot sharks. I was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee the past week. I went to an aquirium while I was there. The aquarium had a tube you could go in and it was all glass so you could see everything in the tubes. In the tubes there was sharks,turtles and sword sharks.The tubes you were able to walk in and look all around you. I saw a lot of different things ive never seen in my life. But what I decided to do for my science discovery from this weekend is the sword sharks. I decided to do the sword sharks because I didn't know of them until my trip to the aquarium. Sword sharks are also known as saw fish. Sword fish can grow to about 23 feet. They get they're name because of they're extension on they're saw like rostrum that looks like a sword or a saw. They can weigh up to 5,000 pounds!

Science Discovery: Solar Panels

My science discovery for this past week is about solar panels. I decided to do solar panels because for my history project I did created a solar panel and I thought I knew a lot about them but after researching I only knew very little. When sunlight hits an object it turns into heat, but when it hits different materials, solar panels, it creates electric current. Solar panels absorb sunlight when the sun is reflecting on it, but when the sun goes down the panels use the restored energy that they absorbed for when the sun was shinning on them. Solar panels do not make.The heat is used to boil water to drive a steam turbine that generates electricity in much the same fashion as coal and nuclear power plants, supplying electricity for lots of people.Solar technologies are also very expensive. Hawaii has a lot of houses with solar panels.

The sun warms the Earths surface,the atmosphere warms too. Some parts of the Earth get direct rays from the sun all year and are always going to be warm. The greater mass of air above us, the higher pressure we feel. Wind is caused by the atmospheres pressure.The direction that wind takes is influenced by the rotation of the earth. On a nonrotating earth wind would move in a straight path from a high- to a low-pressure area. It is deflected. Places where mountains may be the wind blows uphill during the day because the mountainside is heated more than the valley below it.

Rainbows contain the colors red,orange,green,violet,indigo,yellow, and blue. Details of rainbow formation were first analyzed by Isaac Newton in 1665.A rainbow occurs when raindrops and sunshine cross paths. When sunlight enters water drops, it reflects off their inside surface. Each falling water drop actually flashes its colors to the observer just for an instant, before another drop steals its place. A rainbow is seen in the opposite direction of fro m the sun in the sky. The rainbow light is reflected to the eye at a 42 degrees angle to the original ray of sunlight.
