For this week's science discovery, I decided to do how rainbows form. A rainbow is a colorful arc in the sky caused by light in water droplets. Therefore, every time it rains and the sun is shining, a rainbow forms. Rainbows always appear the opposite way of the sun. The colors in a rainbow include red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. A double rainbow or a secondary rainbow forms the same way as the first one did, but the only difference is that two reflections are coming from the same area of rainfall. In conclusion, rainbows are caused from rain and sun and they are very fascinating and colorful.
For this week's science discovery I am doing a cactus. I was in Texas for a few days and I saw cacti everywhere! I immediately thought of my science discovery. Many cacti are located in dry, extreme environments. Smaller cacti usually have globe-shaped stems, but all cacti range in size and shape. Cacti have prickly pokers sticking out of them to protect them from predators. Cacti can live in extreme weather conditions because it's roots spread out to collect water when it does rain and it stores water in it's body for future use. I think that cacti are pretty cool.
For this week's science discovery, I am doing how and why the leaves change color in the fall. In the fall, you see beautifully colored leaves such as red, orange, and yellow. These colors are a result of chemical processes that take place in the tree as the seasons change from summer to winter. Four leaf pigments are responsible for leaf color and its changes in the fall: chlorophylls, carotenoids, tannins, and anthocyanins. In conclusion, leaves change color in the fall because of multiple chemicals.
This week's science discovery is the Marigold. Marigolds are flowers that cheer up many gardens. Marigolds grow in different colors, orange and yellow being the most common. There are many different major kinds of Marigolds. Some of them are American, African, French, Signet, and Mule Marigolds. Marigolds are used for many cosmetic purposes such as ointments and fragrances. In conclusion, Marigolds are beautiful flowers used for many purposes and there are many different kinds of them.
