For my science discovery I researched on Grass Spiders otherwise known as The Funnel Weaver.

Variety

The grass spider can come in a wide variety of colors such as black, tan, brown, and gray. They have eight eyes all the same size and arched upwards. The male is larger in size than the female too. Their legs covered in many thick spines and hairs, have three claws. ( see diagram below)

Scavenger Hunt

Grass spiders are found in the United States and Canada on or near the ground. During a dewy morning you may confront a wet funnel looking spider
web, this belongs to a grass spider. They eat any insect or any other spider that makes its way on their web. Their lifespan is one year but they may live longer. They lay their eggs in late summer or fall and the spiderlings are born in 4-6 weeks. Many people are afraid of spiders but Grass spiders are non-agressive if you happen to confront them they simply just retreat to their webs.

willow.jpgThe weeping willow , most beautiful of most trees. This is my science discovery this week. The weeping willow can grow to be 30-50 feet but on rare cases they can grow to be 70 feet! Raindrops falling from the tree represent tears, this is where the weeping willow got its name. On the other hand the willow may not be the best. Its roots are very, very thick. On this thought it is known to plug drain pipes and water pipes.

For my science discovery this week i researched on the sun. My question was, "why does the sun come up later in the colder seasons and go down sooner then too than the other seasons?" I found my answer at:

The truth is, during the summer the earth is just (of course i am referring to where we live) pointing at the sun for a longer period of time than it does during the winter.

In June the sun gradually shifts southward. This makes it darker much earlier than usual. Some people may not like this less daylight = less sunshine and fun. But remember, The sun will start to change its path around Dec, 21!
