For my science discovery this week, I learned why people are allergic to dogs. People are usually allergic to a protein in the dogs saliva, which the dogs also discharge through their skin. There is actually no such thing as hypoallergenic dogs, but there are less allergenic dog breeds such poodles or schnauzers. Still, a person could play with a boxer and have no reaction, but be allergic to poodles, so a lot of times it depends on the person. So as you can see, that was my science discovery for this week.
For my science discovery this week I have a Kentucky coffee tree bean pod. It is green with a little brown and yellow from age. It's about five and a half inches long. The bans in the pod seem to be pretty big, but I haven't opened the pod to check. So as you can see, that is what my science discovery was for this week.
9/15/14For my science discovery this week I made an observation. When I was hiking in the woods I saw a big charcoal gray leaf falling from a tree about 30 feet away. I guess it was a bird because 5 feet from the ground out came a pair of wings and it flew away. I saw it happen about three more times, but couldn't find out what type of bird it was. I chose this for my science discovery because I liked the way the birds took flight.

I’m comparing White Snakeroot and Boneset. They’re both in the asteraceae family also known as the sunflower family. The scientific name of White Snakeroot is eupatorium rugosum. It is poisonous even second hand, like if a cow ate it then you drank its milk you could die. Boneset’s scientific name is eupatorium perfoliatum, and it was used to heal people that had the flu that made their bones ache. Boneset is a hairy plant with many dense, flat-topped, dull white flower clusters and long wrinkled leaves. White Snakeroot’s firm stems bear flat-topped clusters of small, fuzzy, white flower heads and has long, stalked, coarsely or sometimes sharply toothed leaves. White Snakeroot is usually 1-3 feet tall, while Boneset is usually 2-4 feet tall. They both flower from July-October. White Snakeroot’s habitat is woods and thickets, and Boneset’s habitats are low woods and wet meadows. In conclusion, Boneset can be helpful, but don’t confuse it with White Snakeroot, which can be deadly.

For my science discovery this week, I found something small. It’s about an inch and a half long. It looks kind of like a mini pickle. It was originally a pinkish red color, but it became black. It’s also been slowly shrinking. I think it came from a mountain magnolia tree. That’s all I know about it.
