Over the weekend I couldn't think of what to do for my science discovery. After I thought about it for awhile I decided on doing it on apples. Apples come in 3 different colors which are red, yellow, and green. Depending on the color of the apple the flavor will most likely be different. These delicious fruits are grown on trees. I wanted to learn more about apples so I did some research and found out more then 2500 different types of apples are grown in the united states, apple trees take 4-5 years to produce their first fruit, it takes 36 apples to make a gallon of apple cider, and the strangest fact of all: apples are part of the rose family! That is my scientific discovery.
For my science discovery I discovered a leaf called lemon balm. It can grow up to 150 CM's tall. It has a lemony scent. I found this leaf in a garden at my house. I did some research and found out it can be used for flavoring ice cream and tea. It can also be used for mosquitoe repellent. High doses of lemon balm increase speed and mathematical processing.
For my science discovery I learned about Queens Anne's Lace. I learned its a flower that can grow up to 4 feet tall. I found this flower in my backyard. Another thing I learned is the leaves on the flower are 2-8 inches long. the plant is best known for its tiny white flowers that bloom in clusters. The final thing I found out is that this flower blooms from May to October.
DATE: 9/2/14 For my science discovery I found a flower. I do not know what this flower is called It is a small flower with white petals. It has smooth, soft petals.The middle of this flower is slightly pink. I found this flower in my backyard.

For my science discovery I discovered a flower called a dandelion. I chose this flower because I see it in my backyard often and wanted to learn more about it. All I knew was that dandelions were bright yellow flowers, and turn into white flowers people blow on to make a wish. After I did research I was very surprised. I learned that the dandelion rrepresents 3 bodies of the sky. The yellow flower is the sun, the seeds represent the stars and when it turns into a white puffy flower it represents the moon! I also learned that every part of the dandelion is useful. The root, leaves, and flower can be used for food, dye for coloring, and even medicine. The final thing I learned about dandelions is that the name dandelion comes from the words dent de lion which means lions tooth in french.
