Does the size of an aquarium determine how large the fish will grow?

1. A hypothesis: The size of the aquarium does determine how big the fish will grow.

2. Explain how to set up the experiment:
  • brainstorm a list of all the variables that must be kept constant during the experiment:The temperature of the water, type of fish, age of the fish, type of food, same amount of food, and type of brand of aquarium.
  • include identification of the independent variable: The different sizes of aquariums.
  • the dependent variable:The number of fish in this experiment.
  • identify the control group: The fish in the regular aquarium.
  • identify the experimental group(s): The fish in the four groups of five

3. Provide enough details for someone else to set up your experiment: A scientist wants to know does the size of a aquarium determine how large the fish will grow. The scientist gets 20 fish and puts the fish in to 4 groups of 5. The scientist puts 5 of the fish into a small aquarium, then the next five into a regular aquarium, then the next five into a large aquarium, and the last five in the larger aquarium. Then when 30 days passed he will measure them.
