Does someone wearing hairspray attract more insects than someone who is not?

INCLUDE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING WITH YOUR EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN:

[remember it must be a controlled experiment]

1. A hypothesis
Someone wearing hairspray will attract more insects than someone who doesn't.
2. Explain how to set up the experiment
  • brainstorm a list of all the variables that must be kept constant during the experiment
        • kind of hairspray
        • environment
        • length of hair
        • height of person
        • color of hair
        • color of clothes
        • fabric of clothes
        • article of clothing
        • amount of people in each group
        • hygiene
        • what they ate
        • perfume/makeup
        • how long the hairspray has been in hair
        • how old hairspray is
  • include identification of the independent variable
      • the independent variable is the amount of hairspray in hair
  • the dependent variable
      • the number of bugs each person attracts
  • identify the control group
      • the group of people with no hairspray
  • identify the experimental group(s)
      • the groups with a little hairspray, regular amount of hairspray, and a lot of hairspray

3. Provide enough details for someone else to set up your experiment
  1. get a group of 100 people and a lot of hairspray of the same kind
  2. split the people up into 4 groups of 25 people each
  3. put no hairspray in one group's hair, a little in the next, a medium amount in the 3rd, and a lot in the last
  4. send all the people out into the same environment
  5. moniter the amount of bugs each group attracts
