Flowers and Asprin

Do cut flowers last longer if kept in water that contains aspirin?

INCLUDE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING WITH YOUR EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN:
[remember it must be a controlled experiment]
1. A hypothesis: The flowers kept in water with asprin will last longer than the flowers in plain water.
2. Explain how to set up the experiment: You start by getting a pot of water, one with asprin in it and one without asprin. Then place 10 flowers in each vase. You should keep copying down the results until one of the flowers starts to wilt.
  • Brainstorm a list of all the variables that must be kept constant during the experiment:
  • make sure that the water was the same temperature

  • the vase was the same size
  • the stems were cut the same length
  • it was the same type of blue flower
  • make each vase of flowers had the same amount of sunlight
  • make sure each vase had the same amount of water.

  • Independent variable: Asprin
  • Dependent variable: Which stay fresh the longest.
  • Identify the control group: Water without asprin
  • Identify the experimental group(s): Water with asprin
3. Provide enough details for someone else to set up your experiment:
You start by getting a pot of water, one with asprin in it and one without asprin. Then place 10 flowers in each vase. You should keep copying down the results by taking pictures so you have enough results to conclude the experiment.
