This is very interesting and makes me very curious.  Over the years, I have observed that maple tree leaves turn color and are shed from trees early in the season compared to many other species and I have noticed that many oak trees keep their leaves (even though they are brown  in color) well into winter with some even lingering until spring.  With that said, I am surprised by your data.  You should continue monitoring these trees over the course of the season to see what happens.
