1-18-15 how conduction works. Conduction works when atoms and molecules have direct contact. this creates energy. a special energy called kinetic energy. this is also a form of thermal energy. When a heated object is placed on a cooler one the heat transfers to the cooler one making the cooler object warm. as time passes the objects will transfer enough heat and energy between them that they will become equilibrium. equilibrium is when a heated object and a cooler object have conduction and after a while they become the same temperature. Conduction is heat transfer between particles that are in contact with each other.

1-20-15 How convection works. Convection is heat transfer that occurs when warm particles move in currents. An example would be boiling water. When the water is boiled the water molecules closest to the bottom are going to be the warmest ones. as they heat up the molecules speed up making the water less dense. as the hot molecules rise to the top all of the heat goes with them, leaving the cooler molecules ans temperature down below them at the bottom of the water. The heat transfer is occurring because of the warm particle movement.
